In the heart of the tech corridor northwest of Boston, a local school faced a challenge familiar to many educators: a “triple-threat” space that was failing at all three of its jobs. This massive space served as the gymnasium, cafeteria, and presentation hall, the true heartbeat of the school, but the technology holding it together was stuck in the past. While the room was physically large enough to host everything from basketball games to daily student lunches to lectures, the existing audio visual setup couldn’t keep up.
The Challenge
Designing a solution for a “Cafegymatorium” is a unique puzzle. The system needed to be:
- Powerful enough to blast music for pep rallies.
- Clear enough for a guest speaker.
- Rugged enough to survive a stray ball.
- Simple enough for staff to start a presentation in seconds.
The school needed a professional-grade, “set-it-and-forget-it” solution that could transition from a pep rally to a PowerPoint presentation with the flip of a switch.
Our Solution
Pro AV Systems designed a custom integration centered on durability and high-fidelity output. We chose components that could withstand the physical rigors of a gymnasium while delivering the nuance required for a presentation.
We installed a series of Bose surface-mounted speakers strategically angled to provide uniform coverage across the entire floor. To ensure the audio had depth and distortion-free sound, we integrated a high-output Bose subwoofer, adding that essential low-end punch that standard wall speakers lack.
We installed a high-lumen Epson laser projector, which allows for “instant-on” capability and enough brightness to cut through the ambient light pouring in from the windows.
To house the system’s processing power, we installed a custom AV wall rack with a plexiglass front. By centralizing the controls in a visible, protected location, the staff can manage the AV for their events effortlessly.
Results
The transformation has turned the school’s most problematic room into its most impressive asset. By focusing on high-quality components and a user-centric layout, the school now enjoys a space that finally lives up to its “multi-purpose” title.
